Former Denver Broncos defensive lineman Harald Hasselbach, a key contributor to the team's back-to-back Super Bowl victories in the late 1990s, has passed away at the age of 56.
The football legend succumbed to cancer after a valiant and courageous six-month battle, surrounded by the comfort of his own home, his family announced.
Hasselbach, a stalwart on the defensive line, etched his name in Broncos' history, appearing in an impressive 131 regular-season and postseason games during his seven-season tenure from 1994 to 2000.
He played an instrumental role in the Broncos' triumphant journey to Super Bowl XXXIII, starting all three games and contributing significantly to the team's championship victory.
During his time in Denver, Hasselbach showcased his defensive prowess, amassing 154 tackles, 17.5 sacks, and forcing four crucial fumbles.
His impact on the field solidified his legacy as a formidable force in Broncos' football.
Hasselbach was born in the Netherlands
Before joining the NFL, Hasselbach honed his skills with the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL, winning a Grey Cup in 1992.
Born in the Netherlands in 1967, he later migrated to the Greater Vancouver area of British Columbia with his family, where he attended high school and was inducted into the B.C. Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
