Tyreek Hill, the star wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, has been forced to put his trademark "peace signs" on hold after the NFL fined him for flashing the double fingers on his way to scoring a touchdown. The league deemed it as taunting, but Hill sees it as spreading world peace. In fact, he was asked by a referee not to use the sign anymore before this past weekend's game.

"Two things," Bill Vinovich, the referee, told Hill before Sunday's game. "Make sure we [the referees] get set on the shifts and no 'peace signs,' please. I don't want to have to make a decision [about a penalty]."

Hill's response was classic. "I'm spreading world peace," he said.

"I know that but they didn't look at it that way... just don't do anything after you score the touchdown," Vinovich continued. Hill eventually obliged and refrained from flashing the peace sign after scoring a touchdown later in the game.

Hill is no stranger to taunting fines. Earlier this year, he was penalized after trying to give a football to his mom after scoring. Despite these penalties, Hill is having an impressive year and is well on his way to becoming the NFL's all-time single-season receiver.

Will Hill retire after the 2025 season?

However, he may soon be retiring at the conclusion of the 2025 season. While Hill's future in the NFL is uncertain, one thing is for sure - the league needs to stop being so strict and let players like Hill and fans have some fun.

It's not just fans who are frustrated with the NFL's strict rules. Hill's own teammate, Travis Kelce, spoke out about the issue. "I just think we're getting to a point where we're taking the fun out of the game for each other," Kelce said in an interview with CBS Sports. "I think we need to bring back some of that fun and allow these guys to express themselves in whatever way they want."

Kelce raises a valid point. Football is supposed to be a fun, exciting sport that brings people together. By cracking down on harmless gestures like Hill's peace signs, the league risks alienating fans and players alike.

It's time for Commissioner Roger Goodell and the NFL to take a step back and reassess their priorities. While player safety should always be a top concern, there is no harm in allowing players to have a little fun and express themselves on the field.
