The fallout continues from the week 11 Monday Night Football game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs. The Eagles shut out the Chiefs in the second half of their 21-17 win, which prompted Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni to taunt Kansas City fans on his way down the tunnel.

On Wednesday, one Chiefs player revealed how little he cared for Sirianni's comments -- and he may have just ratcheted up the intensity of this emerging rivalry between two of the NFL's juggernauts.

What Sirianni said -- and how Gay responded

As he trotted off GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, Sirianni said "see ya!" to Chiefs fans, remarking that he didn't "hear any s**t anymore" -- in reference to the Eagles' loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII.

This prompted a response from Willie Gay Jr., who started all three playoff games during Kansas City's run to a Super Bowl championship last season. The fourth-year linebacker left an Instagram comment that made it clear just how he felt about Sirianni's words -- whether they were part of a larger motivational strategy or not.

"Dude corny as a mfer," Gay wrote, with a crying laughing emoji at the end.

A Super Bowl rematch would be spicy

It's been 30 years since the same two teams met in the Super Bowl in consecutive seasons. But it wouldn't be far-fetched to see the spat between Gay and Sirianni resume in Las Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII in February.

The Chiefs' inconsistent wide receiver corps is an obvious weakness -- but with Patrick Mahomes at quarterback, Kansas City will remain the favorite in the AFC. The Eagles haven't always played their best in 2023, but they have football's best record and a slew of difference-makers on defense as well as on offense.

If these two teams meet again at Allegiant Stadium on Feb. 11, it will be the most consequential meeting yet of this burgeoning rivalry -- which has already escalated into social media barbs and general ill will.
