Katie Ledecky, multiple Olympic and world medalist, heads the big-name absences from the U.S. team for the next World Championship in Doha, to be held in February.

The American will, then, interrupt her streak of six straight world titles in the 800 freestyle, the longest by any swimmer.

She will have to wait, therefore, until the 2025 World Championships, if she decides to compete in them - she plans to continue until Los Angeles 2028 - to add to her 16 individual titles in all events. Ledecky's is one of the casualties of the U.S. team, which will send only one swimmer per individual event, a lower number than the 48 who competed in Fukuoka last summer.

Gretchen Walsh, Lilly King, Regan Smith, Ryan Murphy, the only individual male gold medalist at the last World Championships, and Regan Smith are also missing from the list.
